Heartburn or pyrosis is a painful or burning sensation in the esophagus just below the breastbone usually associated with regurgitation of gastric acid. The pain often rises in the chest and may radiate to the neck, throat, or angle of the jaw. The spinal nerves that pass through the mid-thoracic spine provide a function from the brain to the stomach, esophagus and chyloric valve. Many patients have found a decrease or elimination of their heartburn symptoms naturally.
